This is inspired by my good friend Alicia (too bad I don't have her creative writing skills).
It had been a long day. As Allison stepped tiredly out of her Ford Taurus, she thought about the comfortable bed that awaited her just down the stairs. Allison's suit, which had been wrinkle free just that morning, looked like it needed a good laundering. Allison hadn't seen much of her roommate, BethMarie, since moving in a few weeks previous. BethMarie was a nurse, worked 12 hour shifts, and usually worked at night. Tonight, that was okay with Allison. She had work at 8:30am the next morning and needed her rest. BethMarie was a good roommate, but at times a walking contradiction--courteous but curt, sporty but asthmatic, half Fijian but half caucasian. She was a far cry from the roommates that Allison had just escaped from. She didn't allow guys to sleep over, she didn't allow drinking in their home, and she definitely didn't allow vulgar speech in their home. These standards were what Allison felt comfortable with.
Allison passed through the gate to the Bagley's backyard. The apartment she lived in was under a cute family of seven. Down the cement steps she went, fumbling with her keys and finally finding the right one. She quickly unlocked the door and hurried from the kitchen to the living room.
Allison's gasped in her mind, but couldn't physically let out a scream. There was a strange man sitting on the LoveSac(c) in her apartment! A thousand thoughts screamed through Allison's mind.
"Who is this?!?!?!?!?"
"How did he get in?!?!?!?!?"
"What do I do?!?!?!?!?!?"
And finally, "Why is he not jumping up to attack me???"
Allison tried her hardest muster a calm and confident façade. She then addressed him, "Hello Random Man sitting in the LoveSac(c)!"
He must have realized that she was puzzled because he explained, "Oh, I'm sorry! I'm Jereld. I'm here with BethMarie. She's with Carmen and Merilee in her room with the door closed."
Allison's whole body heaved a sigh of relief. Allison wondered where BethMarie's car was. It definitely wasn't out front.
Just then, BethMarie along with her friends Carmen and Merilee emerged from her bedroom. Allison retold BethMarie and friends the story from her point of view, and they all laughed together.
Pretty soon, it was passed time for Allison to go to bed. She dismissed herself and started her nightly routine.
"Jereld's kind of cute," she thought. "But, he's about to see me in my glasses and retainers...Oh well!"
The living room separated the bathroom from Allison's bedroom. So she opened the door and hoped she didn't look too frightening. When she did, the group engaged her in yet another conversation. After about 20 more minutes of talk, Allison insisted that she needed sleep and disappeared into her bedroom.
